Upper Lid Blepharoplasty

Medical blepharoplasty, or functional blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to improve vision or relieve discomfort caused by excess eyelid skin. Unlike cosmetic blepharoplasty, this procedure is medically necessary when excess skin or tissue obstructs the field of vision or causes eye strain, headaches, or irritation. The surgery involves removing or repositioning sagging skin, muscle, or fat to create a more open visual field. It’s typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation with a recovery period of about one to two weeks. Medical blepharoplasty can significantly improve both vision and comfort for patients with vision impairment from drooping eyelids.
