Ectropion is a condition where the lower eyelid turns out. This can occur when the eyelid loosens with age, due a growth weighing down the lower lid, or due to scarring and contraction of the skin. This can lead to symptoms of tearing, eye redness, eyelid redness, foreign body sensation and eye pain. The eyelid itself may be more red and inflamed than the opposing lower eyelid.
Ectropion repair due to age-related changes can be repaired by tightening the lid. If due to scarring, a skin graft may be required as well.
